Skillful aka “Skillz” is a 7-year-old (2017) gelding by Candy Ride out of a Smart Strike mare standing around 16h. Skillz is a very quiet, stick-and-spur ride with the same demeanor on the ground. He’s the type of horse you can feel comfortable sticking your grandma or kids on and is the same whether he’s ridden every day or once in while. He is just as great off property with zero prep, and we even use him to babysit some of the green horses that are a little up.
Despite how laid back and tolerant he is, he also has excellent natural form over fences and is a pretty mover. He is great with his knees; even in the early stages of learning to jump through the jump chute, you would have thought he had done it many times before, and he was taking himself back over the jump without us even asking. He will only continue to improve as he gains more muscle and miles.
Skillz is currently being brought along in the hunters, but has also gone cross country schooling where he went through the water and popped over logs and coops with ease. He is a very no-drama, no-nonsense type guy that goes with the flow and is willing to try to do whatever you ask. He is currently just in front shoes and goes out with one other gelding, but has been in bigger herds too. Completely up to date on Coggins, teeth, feet, and all shots. He stands perfectly quiet for the farrier and to be messed with on the ground. Located in Waterford, VA.
